hi friends! i finally remembered that i have a blog lol!
while i have planned to stay up to date with this blog every week, i have unfortunately taken a 4 week unplanned hiatus. even though i haven’t posted, i have been busy and have had lots to update on.
today was the first day of block 3, marking my final block at my industry track. i am preparing my final presentations and soaking up all the opportunities i can. in most of my free time, i have been either working or reading.
i have gotten a chance to work at other walmart pharmacies and definitely like the vibe at some of the smaller stores. having variety in where i work will help keep me from getting bored.
over the past month, i have been more in communication with the program director in west virginia for my potential post-graduate opportunity. last week, he hosted me for a tour on wvu’s campus in morgantown and showed me his department. it was an incredibly positive experience that affirmed my interest in pursuing my phd and doing the fellowship at wvu. he was very kind to me and introduced me to many students and faculty in his department. he answered all my questions, even the tough ones. eric and i enjoyed morgantown as a city. it had a lot to do, was incredibly beautiful, and seems like a fun place to live. eric and muffin explored the parks while i was meeting with the program director. i was worried that maybe one of us wouldn’t be excited after visiting, but eric and i just fell more in love with the idea. we may have gotten ahead of ourselves and purchased some wvu merch. everyone cross your fingers that come october, i get an offer there.
i have been listening to two albums nonstop. the first of which is detour by kim petras which was my first album of the year. it is perfect pop music with creative production. if you haven’t listened, give it a shot. the second album is breakout by britney spears. i have finally entered my britney spears phase and i am obsessed! breakout is such a uniquely produced and written album. i have not heard anything quite like it and it has become one of my new proclaimed pop bibles. i may have stumbled on my next album of the year, which is confessions ii by madonna. yes, i am also entering my madonna phase. this new project has me hypnotized. no skips and no breaks (literally one long dj set). eric has been subjected to my recent blasting of these pop icons and hasn’t left, so i know he is a keeper. this friday, kelela’s new album comes out. she has a skipless discography and her album take me apart is my favorite album of all time. this is a crazy time for music and i am so lucky to have ears!
my reading journey has been intense. i have been driving a lot recently and have thus consumed many audiobooks. i am a big thriller fan and have been trying to complete my freida mcfadden backlist. i am not really a fan of freida mcfadden as i believe her books are not always well planned out. i love a plot twist, but it has to make sense. sometimes, she makes plot twists that contradict the story. however, it is an addiction to get through these books, even if they aren’t good. i have been making my way through her books via audiobook. eric and i visited my family in PA last week and he listened to 6 of her books with me. he hate listens to them like i do and it has been fun to predict plot twists and get mad when they make no sense with him.
our visit to pa with muffin was fun. we got to spend 5 days there and get quality time with my parents, brother, and grandparents. we ended the trip with a bang on july 4th when a storm hit and we lost power. it was fun reading my kindle by candlelight and waiting in the dark for the lights to come on (they didn’t). i am lucky to have eric and muffin to make every place feel like home.
eric’s dad had cardiac surgery this past week. he has been recovering well and been a good sport through it all. i am inspired by him and eric’s family for how they have been handling the situation. eric’s dad has been through a lot, but he still keeps a smile on his face and a good attitude. his mom has been well too and i am hoping the remainder of this year will be good for them. they deserve a break from the craziness. eric has been spending a lot of time with them, which is amazing because i know it is helpful for him to be there with them.
i hope everyone is staying cool in the blazing heat. stay safe, drink water, and hopefully see you next week for another post (if i don’t forget)!
